Oh boy do I have news for you... In China there are several systems. Huawei's ADS is by far the most advanced and is arguably more advanced than Tesla's FSD, however it's China only for now. https://youtu.be/VuDSz06BT2g?si=ZiML-q7R9gn2iMwy Tesla's FSD (supervised) is using Transformer based AI right now on roads all around the world, and its fucking mind blowing. https://youtu.be/pAbc5elp_wk?si=NR_0ngFrZI3QaXy3 Nvidia has just announced a number of huge partnerships with Uber and car manufacturers using similar technology. Autonomous cars are arguably the most exciting development in AI right now.
Autopilot and Full Self-Driving fraud edit As of October 2022, Tesla is facing a criminal probe from the US Department of Justice over claims it has made about its “Full Self-Driving” driver-assist system or capability.[40][41] Critics call out the company for selling and promoting its so-called Full Self-Driving (FSD) beta add-on when the software requires drivers’ constant supervision and is not actually capable of full self-driving.[42][43] Tesla’s Full Self-Driving beta is generally considered a SAE Level 2 advanced driver-assistance system, similar to competitors’ offerings such as General Motors’ Super Cruise and Ford’s Co-Pilot360.[44] Legal scholars William Widen and Philip Koopman argue that Tesla has misrepresented FSD beta as SAE level 2 in order to “avoid regulatory oversight and permitting processes required of more highly automated vehicles.”[45] They argue that FSD beta should actually be considered a SAE level 4 technology, and have urged state Departments of Transportation in the U.S. to classify it as such, because publicly available videos show that “beta test drivers operate their vehicles as if to validate SAE Level 4 (high driving automation) features, often revealing dramatically risky situations created by use of the vehicles in this manner.”[45] Tesla has benefited from increased sales and profit margins due to sales of the FSD option in particular, priced at $15,000 as of September 2022.[46][47] In April 2019, when Tesla was low on capital, Musk announced that Tesla would have one million robotaxis on the road by the end of 2020; a few weeks later Tesla sold stock to raise an additional $3 billion, solving its cash troubles.[46] Elon Musk has repeatedly claimed that Tesla vehicles will be capable of full autonomy in the near future, but a Freedom of Information Act request made by PlainSite revealed that Tesla told the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) in December 2020 they “do not expect significant enhancements” to the Full Self-Driving software that would enable full self-driving.[43][48] In May 2021, the California DMV said it was investigating whether Tesla violated state regulations by misleading customers in its claims about “full self-driving”.[49] Bryant Walker Smith, an autonomous vehicle law expert at the University of South Carolina, said “it’s so obviously clear that there’s a contradiction” between what Tesla is saying in its marketing of Full Self-Driving versus what its lawyers and engineers have told the DMV.[46] Smith said that using the name Full Self-Driving “leaves the domain of the misleading and irresponsible to something that could be called fraudulent”.[50] In August 2022, records surfaced showing that the California DMV had formally accused Tesla of false advertising Autopilot and FSD in July.[51] In Germany in July 2020, authorities ruled that Tesla misled consumers regarding the “abilities of its automated driving systems” and banned it from using certain marketing language implying autonomous driving capabilities.[52] Upon appeal, that decision was reversed in 2021 by a higher court under the condition that Tesla clarify the capabilities of Autopilot on its website.[53][54] In a 2021 lawsuit against Tesla, Texas police officers claimed “systematic fraud” involving Tesla Autopilot after a Model X crashed into two parked police cars.[55] As of October 2022, a trial has been requested.[56] In September 2022, Tesla was sued by drivers in a proposed class action suit over alleged false advertising of Autopilot and FSD.[57] Insiders revealed to the press in 2022 that the U.S. Department of Justice launched an investigation in 2022 following reports of more than a dozen crashes that involved Autopilot.[58] Then, in a 2023 quarterly company report, Tesla stated receiving subpoenas from the Department in connection with the investigation and other probes.[59]
Misleading “Full Self-Driving” Name: Critics, safety advocates, and even government bodies (like the California DMV and German courts) argue that the names “Autopilot” and “Full Self-Driving” (FSD) are misleading because the systems are not fully autonomous. They are, in fact, Level 2 advanced driver-assistance systems that require constant human supervision. Unfulfilled Promises: CEO Elon Musk has repeatedly made promises and set deadlines for achieving full autonomy that have not been met, leading to accusations of deceptive marketing to boost sales and stock value. Safety Concerns and Investigations: The NHTSA and Department of Justice have launched investigations into Tesla’s FSD and Autopilot systems following numerous reports of crashes, phantom braking, and the systems failing to detect obstacles like emergency vehicles or railroad crossings. Other Corporate Criticisms: The company has faced lawsuits and criticism regarding poor build quality in some vehicles, “stealth recalls,” and a range of corporate governance and accounting issues. In conclusion, while Tesla is a legitimate business, its aggressive marketing of unproven “full self-driving” capabilities is widely considered by critics and regulators to be a form of deception, blurring the line between a genuine, innovative product and an overhyped, potentially fraudulent one.
Lies , lies , and more lies, promises of future lies is the only certainty Autonomous Driving Capabilities: Tesla has faced numerous lawsuits and a formal accusation from the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) for naming its driver-assistance systems “Autopilot” and “Full Self-Driving” (FSD), which critics argue implies full autonomy when they are only Level 2 systems requiring constant driver supervision. Internal documents and engineer testimonies have revealed that a demo video showing a car “driving itself” was staged, and that Tesla has told regulators its vehicles are not fully autonomous, despite Musk’s public promises of a robotaxi network and Level 5 autonomy. Vehicle Range and Efficiency: A Reuters investigation found that Tesla programmed its cars’ dashboards to display overly optimistic range estimates, especially when the battery was above 50% charge, and created a “diversion team” in Las Vegas to cancel service appointments for customers who complained about not achieving the advertised range. South Korean authorities fined Tesla $2.2 million for exaggerating range by as much as 50%. Odometer Readings: A class-action lawsuit alleges that Tesla uses predictive algorithms rather than direct measurement to inflate odometer readings, causing vehicles to reach their warranty limits prematurely and forcing customers to pay for repairs that should have been covered. Safety and Defects: Tesla has been accused of making misleading safety claims, using “stealth recalls” by addressing safety issues through non-disclosure agreements and software updates rather than formal recalls, and using defective parts. Leaked emails suggested the company knowingly sold Model S cars with a battery design flaw that could cause fires.
FSD, Robotaxi and roadster are aspirational 1 year away goals. It’s like saying you will lose weight by next year
This payout is one of the bigest scam out there, forget the 1trillon payout, that's just there to make it seems like its impossible to get and thus, make it seem like a good deal. The real payout, the 1st tranche etc, is pretty much guaranteed. 1st tranche = 10million car sold. tesla has already sold nearly 2 million cars, and are selling round 1.8 a year, so basically, elon just has to do nothing for 6 years, and for that, he gets 100billion in shares. The next tranche, 10m FSD sold, at 10,000 each, that = 100billion, yes, thats right, every single penny of FSD sold, (not the profit, just the revenue) all goes to elon. 1m robo taxi, at 50,000 each = 50b, so elon could literally by 1m robo taxi himself and make a nice 50b profit, 1m robot sold, again, no specfifcation on what the robot can do, could literally buy 1m optimus prime toys and say here you go. Its such a scam.
Uber thinks its “in” on self driving right up until the FSD companies take them behind the woodshed.
What are you talking about? People are already taking cross-country trips using FSD
FSD is already being used across the country. Go watch any number of YT videos of people taking 500 mile trips without touching the wheel or pedals. They just inked a $2B deal with Samsung to sell them Megapacks. Show me another "car company" that's designing and making their own AI chips and I'll buy it. Until then, my TSLA $500 leaps are printing like an ATM. I'll reposition soon to $550.
