Yeah this is a disappointing trend of capitalists realizing there's more money to be made by ignoring a huge chunk of their demographic and focusing on the whale customers. But is it growing profits? All signs point to no. Engineers and stem careers will perform tasks faster but with steadily less and less understanding of what they are doing over time but lots of ideas for the LLM to action. People already give ai little oversight and accept code and solutions which work without considering edge cases and other errors which LLM often struggles to deal with so humans have to go through and fix someone else's code. If you have ever had to do that for a human it fucking sucks, let alone for a LLM which just does the most likely solution to create the right output, not necessarily the most logical or correct solution. This then slows down development at later stages as the developer then has to either go insane rerunning their code through the model until it spits out something halfway functional or they can spend weeks combing through the program looking for where the LLM decided to add avoidable memory leaks for the love of the game.
