Yeah the only Chipotle in my area is like 6 blocks from a Mexican store that has a deli with full kitchen that makes the best Mexican food I have ever eaten. Full plate of pork en salsa verde with beans, rice, and tortillas is less than a Chipotle burrito bowl...$2.52 less last time I checked. I would happily pay more than Chipotle for it, but somehow it's less...fuck Chipotle.
> they're serving bowls of fucking rice and beans
Growing being PR/Mexican, eating rice and beans daily and being made fun of, I find it ironic that this is being exalted as good eating. Hell, our dogs even ate rice and beans--seriously! My grandma would cook up big pots on Sunday to feed the dogs all week and mix in table scraps or chicken gizzards.
Chipotle is on my regular lunch rotation. Honestly, it's one of the better options for about $12. Very easy to go light or heavy as well on the custom bowls/burrito. If I'm trying to cut some weight, just leave out the rice and beans.
Every time Chipotle comes up I feel like I'm crazy. It's ~$12 for a chicken bowl, all fresh and pretty healthy if you don't cover it in sour cream and cheese. Good macros, tons of protein. I'm stuffed after and find it satisfying and filling. The portions are plenty large for a single meal, you really don't need more than that, in fact I often ask for only one scoop of rice. Do we judge other restaurants on if we can get two meals out of a single order? I'm in a HCOL area and it is definitely one of the most affordable chains. It sucks but you just can't find a meal for under $10 these days. I really don't understand the hate they get.
PS my order is brown rice, black beans, chicken, fajita veg, green salsa, corn, and a little bit of sour cream :)
