You really need to stop pretending you understand charts you Googled five minutes ago. You just walked into a massive trap. The dramatic drop in M1 velocity in May 2020 wasn't just "people sitting on their ass." The Federal Reserve changed the definition of M1. They eliminated the six-transfer limit on savings accounts (Regulation D), which instantly reclassified trillions of dollars in savings deposits as M1. When you arbitrarily increase the supply of M1 by trillions overnight with a pen stroke, the calculation for velocity (GDP/M1) mathematically crashes. You are mistaking a bureaucratic accounting change for an economic phenomenon. That is embarrassing. Furthermore, M2 Velocity (the actual standard for broad money) never surged back in 2021. It remained near historic lows (around 1.1-1.2) throughout Sleepy's entire term. If velocity had actually returned to pre-pandemic norms combined with that money supply, inflation would have been 30%, not 9 percent. The inflation happened because the Supply (M2) kept expanding under the ARP, not because the velocity spiked. Stop trying to lecture people on economics when you can't even read the footnotes on a FRED chart.
