I'm in a tech company making networking equipment. The cost to fab and assemble our prototype PCB in California is easily 4x the cost vs China. Labor cost accounts for a large portion of it. We managed to shave the difference down to 2.5x by doing the PCB fab in Taiwan. Cost difference like this percolate up the supply chain.
