I’ve literally never had a problem with spirit so I don’t get the hate. Do they nickle and dime you? Yes but that’s explicitly what you signed up for. They have pretty clear rules and everyone should know what to expect. Spirit is good for people who just need a flight. I always flew internationally with them with just a bag back I bought from target. Never got upcharged by spirit. Never had a delayed or cancelled flight by spirit.
American Airlines is the only one to have cancelled my storm during a blizzard, leaving me stranded in nyc, hundreds of miles away from home. Luckily I was near a megabus so took that, and I had travel insurance and they later credited me a cheap $150 or something. American Airlines is also the only airline to charge me bs fees for the same backpack that spirit has never charged me fees for. Same route as spirit, flight to miami, and Colombia, and I think Mexico.
If you have money, delta and United will take care of you as long as you’re not an economy or standard passenger. If you can’t afford that, well, that’s tough but that’s just the way U.S. airlines are. You pay for what you get and you should always buy travel insurance just in case
Spirit and RyanAir have the same quality per my personal experience. Spirit tickets are still very pricey. Imagine if you could book a flight between nyc and $30 but you had to sit on like plastic seats with no carry on (this is basically what you get with Ryanair). It’s hot garbage but like you can go anywhere in Europe for almost nothing.
I saw this headline and decided to check what the rate from NYC to Atlanta would be on other budget airlines.
$92 RT on Frontier for end of May, there’s still hope.
