as a resident its a shithole. you got cracked out psychos in the subways, huge rats, trash piling in the streets because alley-trash system wasnt designed for the city layout. Driving 8 blocks can take an hour. Scammers ALL over manhattan. Smells like garbage most anywhere you walk, especially in hot weather. I think the boroughs besides Manhattan are much better though generally.
